Professional Review: Opaque black. Dark and brooding, the Riserva Le Viole is a winter wine to be consumed with braised meats and hearty stews. It's lush and big flavored, bold and rich with dense black/red fruit, black olives, and huge extract on the finish that goes on forever. Decant before serving. Aged 60 months in oakbarrels and 24 in tank.
My Review: Alright. What the hell? Aged 60 months (5 years) in barrels?! and then aged another 24 months in a tank? This wine must be special. Anything over 2 years in a barrel I'd consider 'special'. On the nose, very fruity, lots of black and red cherry/jammy aromas. A well balanced wine, with sweetness on the front, tannic on the mid and a strong alcohol finish that lasts a solid 2-3mins after the first sip. A great wine. Once again, at a price of $60 a bottle, a little too steep for my college student budget. Great wine none the less. I had this wine at a tasting without a meal.
