Zaca Mesa Z Cuvee

Name: Zaca Mesa Z Cuvee
Variety: Z Cuvee
Region: Santa Barbara County
Country: U.S.
Year: 2009
Price: $18.95

Professional Review: Our Z Cuvee is 53% Grenache, 39% Mourvedre, and 8% Syrah. Each grape adds its own character. Grenache's racy raspberry, Mourvedre's rustic blueberry, and Syrah's dense blackberry and smooth tannins. This versatile wine pairs with a wide variety of foods, from mushroom pizza to rosemary crusted rack of lamb. Enjoy it now or cellar for up to seven years.

My Review: This was the first Z Cuvee I've ever tried. It had a real earthy smell and taste. Very oaky and woody with a good blend of tannins. I could smell black cherries and black berries, with a few violets as well. It was dry and could use a few hours of decanting to have it flow a little easier but the tannins weren't really that bad. It was just right. I had this wine at a tasting without a meal.
